Committees & Working Groups
💻 Media & Communications Committee
Our Media/Comms Committee administers our website and social media accounts. Committee members coordinate phonebanks and email bulletins, as well as design graphics for the branch. The Media/Comms Committee is responsible for crafting our message to the public, and is tasked with responding to press inquires & drafting statements. The committee is chaired by the Communications Secretary.
😷 Medicare for All Working Group
The Medicare for All working group is focused on building a broad coalition of support for universal healthcare in the suburbs, and pressuring our elected officials to endorse such legislation. In 2019, we launched a M4A campaign in Norristown, which after months of canvassing and hard work culminated in Council passing a resolution endorsing Medicare for All. Norristown is just the beginning!
🌿 Ecosocialist Working Group
Ecosocialism is the idea that all people deserve to live in a world where their natural environment is safe, stable, and healthy. Our working group organizes local clean-up hikes, maintains a community garden and distributes the food to local pantries, seeks to educate the public on municipal solar and wind power, and opposes local privatization of resources.
🗳️ Electoral Working Group
The Electoral Working Group is focused on advancing socialism, and the policy priorities of BuxMont DSA, at the ballot box. This includes vetting and supporting socialist political candidates throughout Bucks and Montgomery counties. Once endorsed, we support our candidates through canvassing, phonebanking, newsletters, and social media posts.
🌹 Political Education Working Group
Our Political Education Working Group meets every Monday at 7pm and organizes discussions, reading groups, and movie nights centered on socialist theory. The working group also responses in real time to important issues and events in our community, and holds sessions to articulate the socialist alternatives to issues such as charter schools and utility privatization. All are welcome!
🚨 Immigration and Criminal Justice
The Immigration & Criminal Justice Working Group is committed to empowering communities of color and fighting against local policies that oppress these communities. In addition to supporting local protests against police brutality, we will fight to see that police funding is redistributed into the community.
