Join BuxMont DSA each Monday at 7:00pm for our weekly virtual political education program! Each session will include a live reading of a relatively short, accessible article or other piece of media that encourages us to think strategically about the challenges socialists face in our struggle to build a better world. Because we read articles aloud together, interspersed with open discussion, no homework is necessary!
Mutual aid, or material support of communities with an expectation of reciprocal political support, has become a contentious topic among DSA members since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Can mutual aid be an effective strategy to develop the political power of the working class, grow radical organizations, and directly improve the conditions of working people all at the same time? How can mutual aid transcend mere “charity?” How might DSA chapters conduct mutual aid work? This week we will consider these questions as we read the first chapter of Dean Spade’s recent book Mutual Aid: Building Solidarity During This Crisis (and the Next).
