Labor Solidarity

“The Labor Movement was the principal force that transformed misery and despair into hope and progress.”

– Martin Luther King Jr.

Organizational strength

The strength of labor unionism is tied directly to the strength of the working class. For the past 50 years unions have been under siege – laws such as Taft-Hartley, so-called “Right to Work” laws, and NAFTA have deprived unions of strength, membership, and negotiating ability.

As democratic socialists

BuxMont DSA strives to lift up workers in Montgomery and Bucks counties, organized or not. Our counties are home to thousands of unorganized workers, and thousands of union members who need solidarity against the boss, be it at the Starbucks or Jeff Bezos.

“If the workers are organized, all they have to do is to put their hands in their pockets and they have got the capitalist class whipped.”

– Bill Haywood

Solidarity is not a matter of sentiment but a fact, cold and impassive as the granite foundations of a skyscraper. If the basic elements, identity of interest, clarity of vision, honesty of intent, and oneness of purpose, or any of these is lacking, all sentimental pleas for solidarity, and all other efforts to achieve it will be barren of results.”

– Eugene Debs
